Trust in experts, trust in press, trust in institutions, and ultimately trust in democracy are all decreasing. Fast!

We are talking about the fabric of our societies, and we need to find a way to get our shit together. Soon!

Thanks for having me @moylato.bsky.social, a pleasure as always✨️🙏
Great session with @chrisskriver.bsky.social tonight.

A room full of comms specialists talked evidence-based comms, the decline of trust in expertise, platform fragmentation, community building and much more.

Thanks to Christian - and to everyone else who took part in the discussion!

🔥 What happens after Europe’s NGOs are dismantled?

Last week, @alemanno.bsky.social mapped how civic space in Europe is being suffocated – how NGOs die.

This week, we asked the next question: what happens when they do?

What happens after Europe's NGOs are dismantled?
What does Europe look like when independent civil society is silenced, sidelined or slowly starved out of existence? This is not dystopian fiction. It is the logical end-point of a trend already visib...

🤒 EUROPE IS MISDIAGNOSED

Blood tests found PFAS in every EU leader tested, proof that pollution runs through Europe’s veins. As calls grow for a full ban on “forever chemicals,” Brussels offers the wrong cure: weaker protections disguised as “simplification.”

💔 STATE OF DISUNION

Ahead of von der Leyen’s speech, the EU faces a wave of deregulation disguised as “simplification.” Hard-won safeguards for clean water, forests & nature are on the line. Citizens are pushing back through one of the biggest grassroots campaigns in years.

Don’t let the EU tear down nature protection ❌

The European Commission is quietly trying to dismantle the laws that safeguard what we cherish most: our nature.

They think we wouldn’t notice or care. But we do.

The EU needs an anti-greenwashing law. Dropping the #GreenClaimsDirective would be a major setback for consumer protection and sustainable businesses.

It erodes public trust, contradicts EU commitments, and weakens the fight against greenwashing and disinformation.

🔥 Brussels is heating up.

The EU dropped the Green Claims Directive, sparking backlash from its own allies. Add NATO’s call for 5% military spending + green rollbacks = pressure rising.

But there’s hope: water justice in France + river restoration gains.

We hate to say we told you so, but… we told you so.

Commissioner Serafin has debunked the myth that NGOs were “obliged” to lobby MEPs.

The EU Court of Auditors also confirmed: no misuse of funds, no undue lobbying.

NGOs across Europe face a coordinated disinformation campaign led by far-right forces trying to silence the voices that defend people, planet, and democracy.

Industrial policy is public policy—it demands democracy.

No civic groups were invited to the EU’s strategic dialogue on steel. This isn’t a glitch; it’s a pattern. Corporate voices dominate the new industrial agenda, while civil society is sidelined.

When is an EU 'dialogue' actually a monologue?
As a sign of the importance of 'green steel', the EU Commission this month launched a Strategic Dialogue on the Future of Steel — a high-level roundtable with industry executives and policymakers. Yet...
