the only good thing about genAI is that it got me to really love seeing bad art, because I know a person put in time and effort, made themselves vulnerable by showing it to others, and is trying to improve. I value that more than anything now

Why am I so against generative AI in games?
Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.

Bounced hard off a well regarded metroidvania, a genre I thought I really liked until I noticed there's massive crossover of the puzzle platformers of Animal Well and Iconoclasts that i like and the combat focused Soulslike pain engines like silksong that i don't get on with.

"No one is angry about games not containing gen AI" is such a hell of a good point. It is incredibly off-putting to many customers, an absolute deal-breaker, yet there is no flip side to that, no consumer base clamouring for it, no demand. They can only try to wear people down into accepting it.
I saw this and had two thoughts,
No one is angry about games not containing gen AI, so if you wanna avoid being a part of the conversation it's easy.

Valve uses games only as software to promote the launch of Valve hardware like VR, Steam Deck, and soft platforms like Steam and the marketplace.
