Writer of Leeds historical crime. Lover of my city. Reader. Allotmenteer. Coming April 2025: No Precious Truth
If you ever wonder why I write so much about Leeds, here's an answer of sorts. The invoice, dated 1858, is from my 3x great uncle, George Nickson. His father moved here from Malton in the 1820s. Most of his sons became painters and decorators. When George died, his wife took over the business.

Scruffy and Mischief, the book recommendation stuffed dogs, wish tyou a belated happy new year - and also bring you their first recommendation of the year.
It's the superb A Lion's Ransom by @candacerobbauthor.bsky.social . Set in 14th century York,. it's twisted, spellbing, and very, very human.

Apparently Laura Kuenssberg is back on BBC Sunday morning TV. I thought they'd dropped her for being irrelevant.

The Morning Star likes A Rage Of Souls: The period detail in Nickson’s novels seems so real and is brought in so naturally, that you feel you’re walking the streets of old Leeds alongside the ever-developing characters.

It's that time of year to suggest a final item or two for your Xmas shopping (aka plugging the goods). Different periods, very different tales. The thread is Leeds. Available from the places you buy books.
Thank you and have a wonderful Christmas.

The decisions are in and the stuffed dog book reviwers made made their choices for book of 2025. Mischief has decided on A Rage Of Souls, while Scruffy has gone with No Precious Truth.
Books make great presents and you'll feel even better buying them, from an independent bookshop.
Merry Christmas.

What she said. The second book is out in April...why not make sure you're ready?
Chris's new series is set in WWII Leeds. The 1st book, No Precious Truth, quite the thriller, is out in paperback. Read it now, because there's a 2nd in the pipeline, & it's even darker & more thrilling--I know, I'm reading it. It's a corker. Be ready! #mystery #historicalfiction #booksky
Please don't forget about me. Just £4.99 on Kindle ($6.99 US) and out in paperback next week. This book wants to go home with you. It makes a great Xmas present, too.
