It’s not that people doubt biodiversity is declining—it’s that we underestimate how many others already share this concern.

In our new Perspective, we review work on pluralistic ignorance and set out a research agenda to:

Most people believe that biodiversity loss is human-caused, yet they may not realize how many others share this belief. Such collective misperceptions…

Denying responsibility, shifting blame to individuals, and promoting weak, nontransformative solutions—just some of the tactics fossil fuel companies use to confuse the public and delay climate action.
Years of research suggested that Twitter and other social media apps were vectors of misinformation and propaganda, including from fossil fuel interests.
The 8 talking points fossil fuel companies use to obstruct climate action
New research highlights companies’ “aligned and coordinated” use of Twitter to deny climate change and delay solutions.

New paper in BJSP! We (me, JanetSwim & JohnFraser) explore how social support can promote climate action. We find that those receiving more social support have more hope about taking action, and this action hope predicts more intended and self-reported behavior. Read here: shorturl.at/HiZHt
