Surrey’s Police and Crime Commissioner (Conservative politician) is evicting police officers from their homes including a heavily pregnant woman. This would be illegal under the incoming Renters Rights Act banning no fault evictions. I’ve spoken to the BBC and will be writing to the Home Secretary.

Two weeks ago, the Foreign Secretary told me I was wrong to call Trump a threat. Since then we have seen multiple attacks by the U.S. on liberal democracy. I asked the government again to get serious about increasing defence spending. This would be good for our economy and protect the free world.

Last year I called for a new alliance for smaller democracies strong enough to defend ourselves because the West can no longer trust Donald Trump. I’m pleased to see Mark Carney calling for this at Davos. 1/2

Dorking is 21 miles from central London, yet it takes an hour to travel there by train. Trains from Redhill to London take only 40 minutes for the same distance. I believe we should have faster trains too. Next month, I’ll be meeting the Manager Director of South Western Railway. 1/2

President Reagan described America as a beacon on the hill. Sadly that light seems to be fading. But I believe it has burned long enough for the other democracies to see it. In the 1940s refugees fled the Nazis built the atomic bomb and won the war. 1/3

We must believe Trump when he says liberal Europe is a threat. Trump’s attack on Venezuela only reinforces the new law of the jungle world. Smaller liberal democracies either form a new alliance as a power bloc together or be satellites of great power autocrats. It is up to us.
