Artist James Barry died on this day in 1806. A protégée of John Butts, his career took him from Cork to Dublin, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, and London.

He is regarded as the most important Irish artists of the 18th century and one of the most significant history painters in Ireland and Britain.

Obsessed with this stone painted coaster gifted to me recently, you’d almost feel guilty covering the medieval cat with the margarita

Between storms Éowyn and Herminia, we give you The Storm Maiden herself.

The Storm Maiden (1851) is likely a depiction of the mythological Ariadne marooned on the island of Naxos. This beautiful watercolour is by Irish artist Daniel Maclise, who was born in Cork #onthisday in 1806.

Although I absolutely adore making mead as a hobby, it’s not exactly something you can tip away at on a daily basis. Anyone have any tips on getting into candle making/cross stitch/embroidary?

Love this carpet design by Mainie Jellett featured in Following Threads @crawfordartgallery.bsky.social. Also love that she met Eileen Gray in Paris and that a whole network of modernist Irishwomen had Jellett at its centre.
