This was a series of 3 spot illustrations for the NYT Book Review in 2023, for an essay by Ayana Mathis on hate, evil and suffering. AD by Matt Dorfman.

One of my unused sketches made into a final drawing (personal work). The concept was originally for the NYT Book Review back in 2022, which chose a different sketch to publish at the time.
I had fun making this red monochrome palette.

Originally just one color variant (I made a 2nd one and animated them for my own experiment). For @nyt Paired with a review of Tao Leigh Goffe’s book “Dark Laboratory.”We went with an unusual color scheme to take the environment out of the lense through which it was traditionally seen/portrayed.

These were 2 of 4 coaster oil paintings that sold in 2022 for Nucleus Portland’s coaster show - really loved how they came out and how they look together. It was nice to explore painting again after 10 years of a hiatus. I’m mostly a drawer but it was quite fun to experiment🌈🦆

From 2023, a full page for The Atlantic magazine for a book review of Zadie Smith’s “The Fraud.” This historical fiction was a lot of fun to bring to life, I would looove to do more historical projects. Many thanks to AD Gaby Pesquiera🖤🙏 The most traditional Victorian color palette was published.

Hegel and Alexandre Kojève from last year, two philosophers with a shared theory on what drives human history and what prevents us from having an egalitarian society. (Ego). I recommend reading about them!

Jumping on to share this 2/3 spread from 2023, for Johns Hopkins magazine about broccoli sprouts and their superpowers against diseases and cancers. Broccoli does this too, but not to the same degree as the sprouts.

I drew this with charcoal on white paper and colorized it in photoshop.
