Looking forward to presenting some ✨ new ✨ research at PALA 2025 on the unusual stylistic profile of app-based 'sleep stories', introduced by the meditation app Calm.

I'll be exploring how this new genre reduces cognitive load for listeners & facilitates sleep onset 😴

To paraphrase Haj Ross, #linguist folks, to study language with its aesthetics drained away is ultimately pointless. So get some aesthetics with @chloeharrison.bsky.social’s link.springer.com/book/10.1007...

I love that even though I'm new here, this place somehow knows that I would like to see lots of owl photos, which currently make up approx. 70% of my feed 🦉
On Wednesday, I found a window of drier weather that would allow me to at least do a tiny bit of birding, but the rain came back unexpectedly. Defeated, I was leaving the reserve and almost missed this cold, wet Barred Owl. #originalcontent #birds #photography 📷 (more in alt-text)
