The planting phase of this year's hedgerow project at OtterClose/St Paul's Road is now complete. The last mulch was added on Friday 11th April 2025, thanks to the hard work of local volunteers.
The support of both individual volunteers and businesses/organisations was very much appreciated.
Our latest profile pic celebrates the flowering cherry blossom that's particularly a feature of spring in our 1950s/1960s Council estates. Here near the junction of Parklands Road and St Paul's Road, where at least 2 other colours of blossom were on display.

The Camperdown elm at St Richard's Hospital has had an unfortunate "haircut". 7th August 2024 photo in full leaf for comparison with yesterday.

Another great way to identify trees during winter is to get close to a tree and inspect its bark! Bark generally comes in four main types: smooth, peeling, ridged, and plated.

Here are five trees with distinctive bark patterns, colours and textures! 🌳

What's that tree? It might just be a giant redwood that's had its top cut out a few years ago, so currently lacks the tree's distinctive shape. On the left as you leave Chi on St Paul's Road, just beside the Centurion Way bridge.

When you stop and look properly at a place and realise there used to be an entrance here. There were also goldcrests.

In 2025, Chi Tree Wardens will be updating our city centre Tree Trail. We would love to hear from Chichester residents and visitors about your favourite places and trees. Several trees have been lost/are at risk in our current Trail and we could develop a whole new route. (Photo TT8 giant redwood)

Early Tuesday 31/12/24, a WSCC tree officer inspection resulted in an emergency fell of 1 of the 2 landmark false acacia (robinia) on East Street, beside the junction with St Martin's Street.
See how the 2 trees looked in full leaf at www.treesinchi.org/trees-loved_...

An autumn moth, the Pink-barred Sallow, perfectly camouflaged to blend in with the colours of autumn leaves. Attracted to light in my garden in Cheshire in September a few years ago. #moths
