Sometimes you listen to an album you haven’t listened to in years and you don’t remember that you really listened to it that much back in the day but it turns out you know it like the back of your hand and it’s like an old friend and it’s even better than you remember. Re: The Format - Dog Problems

Ever lie in bed and night and wonder, for example, am I closing my mouth wrong? Is my tongue supposed to be touching the roof of my mouth? Why can’t I put my teeth together without clenching my jaw? When was the last time I took a breath? Isn’t breathing supposed to be involuntary?

Focus Friend is good and all but the prospect of “pedantic phylogeny in sports reporting” is the @hankgreen.bsky.social innovation of 2025 that I’m most excited about, cock blarnet!

Let’s do a deep dive on Guided by Voices album titles. “Bee Thousand” is obviously a great one and a classic joke on a Beethoven misspelling, and GbV titles have always been good, but I’d argue they didn’t really hit their stride till the 2012 comeback.

The best version of “Streets of Baltimore” is the Bobby Bare one, even if I came to know the song via Evan Dando’s cover and Gram Parsons who is one of my faves did it.

Stores are selling all sorts of weird freeze dried candy like skittles and starbursts but what I want are the ropes of skittles or sour patch kids or peanut butter cups that come out of the hydraulic press on the hydraulic press channel on instagram. Somebody sell that stuff.

Here’s the thing about guys like Trump and Elon: they’d rather be in a world where there’s a hundred dollars to go round and they have ninety nine of them than be in a world where there’s a thousand dollars to go around and they have five hundred of them.

Spent last week in Minnesota and listened to The Loon by Tapes ‘n Tapes on the flight in the state’s honor. Good record. Holds up.

Listened to some other MN stuff too that also holds up but nobody’s forgetting about those bands.

@stevenhyden.bsky.social Spent my Presidents’ Day sitting on my back patio listening to MJ Lenderman, Taper’s Choice, and Sturgill Simpson shows real loud on Nugs.net. I know the weather’s not ready for that where you are, but if you ever come to Phoenix in the winter, lemme know.

Destroyer’s ouvre is nuts. 3 pretty distinct eras of getting a little more famous each time, and each one effectively erasing what came before. No one talks about Rubies or Streethawk much anymore. In the modern convo the band may as well start w/ Kaputt. And I get it, Kaputt was era defining

Mitski’s best song still. One of the best songs of its year, decade, century etc. That she hasn’t topped it or come close is not a slight against what she’s done since. This song is just on another level. In another universe. In another timeline.

Mk.gee’s songs all sound really good—great drums, guitar work, etc. but I never remember the songs at all afterward. They’re just there. All vibes. And I like vibes, esp these vibes. But it just seems background music. “Breakthespell” is a pretty good “Sweet Jane” interpolation though.

The new Ringer website is just awful. There’s such a thing as too much information density, but there reverse is also true. I can scroll up and down, or let the tiles scroll but by the time I’m ready to click on a story (which I can only see 3 or 4 of) it’s auto side scrolling to the next topic. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

How is it possible that Emiliano Martinez both one of the best goalkeepers in the world and also one of the absolute worst, most absent-minded professional athletes on the planet?

Nobody probably remembers this but Dreamers of the Ghetto was a good band that made a great album called Enemy/Lover. Still sounds great.

Obviously a solo Kim Deal record was going to be good, but this good? I don’t know man. It’s just exquisite.
