Today marks the 16th anniversary of Sleep No More's final performance at the Old Lincoln School in Boston. This teaser video with these amazing photos and perfectly mysterious music were a big selling point when I was contemplating buying tickets to this thing all those years ago.

I may not be the smartest or most well-spoken person out there, but at least I would never be outright rude to other members of an already fragile niche fandom.

Oh, Catherine O'Hara. This one is tough. So many of her characters, many of which were crucial to the way my taste and sense of humor developed as a kid, loom large in my personal pantheon of the ideal kind of delightfully eccentric weirdo I've always wished I could be more like. 💛

A great panel discussion at the British Library with Blixa Bargeld, Gudrun Gut, and Mark Reeder about David Bowie in West Berlin.

To celebrate Conrad Veidt's birthday, I wanted to share this blog I finally published the other day. The only things there right now are an intro, a (longer than I wanted it to be) bio, and a collection of resources for anyone who's interested in learning more about a fascinating character.

Glad I'm not the only person out here Conrad Veidt posting on Bluesky

[Unheimliche Geschichten (Eerie Tales), dir. Richard Oswald, 1919]
Conrad Veidt was an actor and committed anti-Nazi, the strange, stylish and freewheeling spirit of the Weimar era personified.

Ich möchte kein Mann sein, dir. Ernst Lubitsch (1918)

Fellas, is it gay to drunkenly smooch a cute twink you just met who is actually this girl you're supposed to be in charge of while her uncle is out of town?

Notorious, dir. Alfred Hitchcock (1946)

This was a first watch for me, which is kind of crazy. I actually bought the blu ray because it's so hard to find anywhere online. But absolutely 10/10 no notes. Ingrid Bergman is everything.

Rede/Speech
Deutsches Theater, Berlin
23.05.2003

Some kind soul finally uploaded the entire 90 min performance (in German; the dvd version has English subtitles, although it's out of print but can occasionally be found on Discogs which is where I got my copy a few years ago).

Eyyy, Powell & Pressburger name drop: "They don't fuck around with [the color] red." Thinking a lot about that part of this conversation. I think GDT brings up Black Narcissus, but I feel like The Red Shoes is a better parallel to Frankenstein, no?
