At least 20% of my 6th grade girls have read and loved Twilight. Idk who got this trend going, but I don’t hate it.

Very excited to introduce them to Kelley Armstrong’s Darkest Powers/Darkness Rising trilogies!

We were like, “we shouldn’t shame kids for xyz bc they’re kids and learning how to human.”
And a bunch of grown ass adults took that to mean they don’t have to be ashamed of anything they do or say.
I continue to think that one of the reasons this country is falling apart is the wholesale abandonment of public virtue as a broadly shared aspiration. Or even something people should be embarrassed about if they don’t have it.
Fuckin yikes, man

I spent $$$$ on food at Costco so I feel like no matter what I can survive for a while. I did similar in Feb 2020 and it helped my anxiety a lot, and was helpful when everything did shut down.

But also I’m spending a lot of time completely dissociating 😂
How are y'all dealing with the cognitive dissonance of much of your daily life continuing as normal right now even as really really really bad shit is happening in government (that will certainly have ripple effects that will reach us all)? Because I'm honestly feeling a little insane right now.

One way that I’ve found that combats this (some) is that after we read a class novel together (6th grade) I pull Chat GPT up and ask it questions about the book and have the kids point out everywhere that gets it wrong. They’re in 6th grade, so poising it as “Laugh at this silly machine” still works
Well this is grim
