On this day in 1838, Samuel Morse demonstrated his telegraph system in public for the first time. Six years later, he'd dispatch the first telegraphic message—"What hath God wrought"—over an experimental line from D.C. to Baltimore. The Library is home to Morse's papers. www.loc.gov/collections/...
