“To fool inspectors, netting that met the standards was installed at the base of the scaffolding, where samples are usually taken”

some very concerning details in this piece
Breaking News: Contractors at the Hong Kong housing estate where a fire killed more than 150 people wrapped the buildings in substandard scaffolding netting and then sought to hide it from inspectors, officials said.

This looks to be the start of the fire in HK - extremely alarming how quickly it became out of control
Local journalist Boomhead has uploaded a video he found on the internet that shows one of the earliest moments of the Tai Po fire, showing the extreme speed the fire spread up the exterior of the building.

This looks horrendous
Local media report that four people are dead and three injured as a fire, involving bamboo scaffolding, spread to three residential towers in Tai Po on Wednesday. A No.4 fire alarm has been raised, the second-highest alert, as surrounding roads are closed.

Crazy but highly impressive feat!
British swimmer Simon Holliday became the first person to circumnavigate Lantau, Hong Kong's largest island, a distance of over 65 kilometres, in 20 hours and 56 minutes. The American Edie Hu closely followed, completing her own odyssey of 21 hours and 28 minutes. In full: buff.ly/t1uZrHn

“the scope of broad clemency”
President Trump issued pardons to two people convicted of crimes stemming from the events of Jan. 6, 2021, but not directly tied to the attack on the Capitol, expanding the scope of the broad clemency he had already granted to those caught up in the prosecutions related to the riot.

Another excellent piece on the BBC
The reaction to the Panorama edit has been nothing short of hysterical. Yes the BBC has some impartiality problems. But its biggest isn't the one you think.

The fact that the BBC has made serious culpable errors does not negate the point that there is a real and concerted right-wing media campaign to destroy it. Both points can be true at the same time and the campaign would not end even if the errors did.

Includes the statement that the UK government has grown since Brexit because - surprise surprise - the country now has to work that was previously done through the EU.
Yesterday Nigel Farage argued that the UK has failed to grasp Brexit opportunities to deregulate, which his 'pro-business' government would deliver.

I've got a piece in the Independent arguing why that is a misreading both of Brexit history and economics.
