My book club is currently reading an oldie. (Ha! 1997? Old?)
The Partner by John Grisham. I have to admit it's the first Grisham novel I've ever read. Spreading my wings with this club after being immersed in medieval times.

It's a very peculiar thing, that you can invent people and put them down on paper, and then kill them - and you feel guilty! THEY AREN'T REAL, dammit!

I’ve never used chapter titles when writing my own books although I’ve absorbed them when reading other books. What do chapter titles do? They can act as promises of what’s to come in the next few pages, be it a potential escalation (The Reading of the Will), an emotional disaster like loss or dread (The First Betrayal), or perhaps they point to an ironic promise that primes the reader for subversion (

Reading Agatha Christie's lesser work does show you how much of what counts as "fair play" in mysteries depends on the assumption of shared social context.

Just read a short story where the crucial clue was, as Miss Marple says, "Gardeners don't work on Whit Monday. Everybody knows that."

2025 was an art year I am proud of. Strong new work, group shows across the country, and a few pieces sold. As an activist artist, it's quite a time to be alive.

Maybe next year, I can get back to spending more time with happier issues like the climate crisis. 🤞
