Geriatric medicine registrar and PhD student researching care trajectories and geriatric syndromes. Small details and big pictures. Based in Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders.
Since I started work we’ve made so much progress with diagnosing delirium, ascertaining its relationship with dementia, and advocating for informed and compassionate care of people suffering it.

Still so much to do though and so many unknowns…..

@mancunianmedic.bsky.social just found your 2008 JRSM article as the profanosaurus sprung to mind this morning!

It’s a great article! I think we’ve made some progress if not quite enough…

I am a huge fan of lymphoma action after my dalliance with #hodgkins a few years ago. They are a super charity ❤️

Whilst we are talking about dying & giving people choices

Can our government also choose to fund #PalliativeCare so that #hospices aren’t depending on charitable donations
Why should end-of-life care need local people to run marathons & hold cake sales- which contributes to #inequities in care
What a powerful programme highlighting the devastating financial position the hospice sector is experiencing.

Thank you @danielhewittitv.bsky.social @tobyhporter.bsky.social @doctoroxford.bsky.social @katherinesleeman.bsky.social & all the other voices included in the report.
This is a must-watch tonight at 8:30pm. Thank you @danielhewittitv.bsky.social for reporting on the financial crisis the #Hospice sector is experiencing.

The government must provide urgent & sustainable action in order for us to continue to provide #palliativecare

Word of the day is ‘homeostenosis’ ie a loss of adequate homeostasis, so often seen in #frailty #geriatricmed

I’m unsure if the stenosis root is quite ‘right’ (but am not a classicist) but it’s a great concept. How have I not heard it before?

Obv have used it about 12 times today already 😅

Thank you @ncfcareforum.bsky.social for inviting @gerisoc.bsky.social to the panel. 3 million people work in social care & health care in the UK, so much we can do together to ensure people age well & older people are supported to live well, independently & healthily. Lots to do together!!

Today’s fact is that Heberden (of the nodes, ofc) Also came up with the term ‘angina pectoris’.

Osler commented on the feeling of ‘imminent dissolution’ - angina animi - we all learn in medical school.

From an article suggesting silent angina is a geriatric syndrome (not sure I agree)
