This Wednesday marks the *10 YEAR* anniversary of First Draft Book Club at @changinghands.bsky.social. The only thing I've ever stayed committed to for 10 years before is a cat. It's one of the great joys of my life to read and discuss books with my community

More book purges—many more—coming from our neofascist government, this time under the supervision of a temporary “Academic Libraries Committee.”

It's worth saying she's one of only three people in this role to have actually been a librarian, not to mention that this is not in the executive branch's purview.
Dr Carla Hayden, our Librarian of Congress that Trump summarily fired today is a great librarian, a great public servant and we have been lucky to have her.

World Central Kitchen has run out of food to serve in Gaza. Its bakery ("recently the last working bakery in Gaza") is out of flour. There are 100,000+ tons of food in staging areas within driving distance of Gaza, and Israel refuses to let them in wck.org/news/gaza-up...

After serving more than 130 million total meals and 26 million loaves of bread over the past 18 months, World Central Kitchen no longer has the supplies to cook meals or bake bread in Gaza.

Famine in Sudan and Gaza…completely human made. The US has its hands in both.

My parents survived a famine in northern Viet Nam that killed a million people in 1945. That was induced by Japanese occupiers and French colonizers.

I can’t believe this history is being repeated.

You know that if the New York Times is reporting this, then the situation is extremely dire. Palestinians have been saying for months that famine is happening due to Israel’s siege. That is a war crime, Israel is the agent, the US is the sponsor, and American taxpayers are rendered complicit.

The shock for Europeans is not that American betrayal is new, it’s that American betrayal is aimed this time at historically white countries.

In this piece, published first in Italian and then in English in Zeteo, I put this betrayal into the context of a longer history of the United States betraying its allies and its own people—usually nonwhite.
