DNRF Center of Excellence performing ground-breaking research on the multiple aspects of gene expression, based at ICMM, UCPH. It is led by Jesper Svejstrup and also houses research groups led by Simon Bekker-Jensen, Lea Gregersen and Peter Haahr.
Exciting Expansion at CGEN! We’re thrilled to welcome Fena Ochs and Niels Erik Møllegaard. 🔬 Fena brings cutting-edge expertise in 3D chromatin organization and its role in gene regulation, DNA repair, and cell division. 🧬Niels Erik’s expertise is in genome structure and DNA helix conformation

New review in Genes and Development: genesdev.cshlp.org/content/earl... Blear & Svejstrup review a critical transcription QC checkpoint at the beginning of protein-coding genes, where the cell assesses RNA polymerase II quality and decides whether it will continue, or not. @jsvejstrup.bsky.social

Extremely proud to share the impressive work done by Anouk Olthof et al. on how cells maintain healthy levels of RNAPII, and how they respond when levels are too low. Fascinating stuff, we think www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Systems-level feedback loops maintain gene expression homeostasis following RNA polymerase II dosage perturbation
Transcription is regulated by sequence-specific transcription factors and enzymes allowing access to genes in chromatin. However, recent data indicate that the abundance of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) ...

Four of our six Master's students successfully defended their theses last week. In the coming weeks, the remaining two will defend theirs, and Mads, our laboratory technician trainee, will also complete his training. Last Friday, we held a joint celebration at the center. Congratulations to all! ⭐

Excited to share the latest paper from CGEN just published in Molecular Cell! This study demonstrates the specificity of RNAPII-CTD kinases CDK9 and CDK12, and also describes the activation mechanism of CDK12/13 in cells by the PAF1C subunit CDC73.
