In the 1980s, in Tucson, activists and religious leaders joined forces to protect refugees at the U.S.-Mexico border. Their collaboration helped galvanize the Sanctuary Movement, a humanitarian immigrant defense project that pioneered new models of citizen resistance.

The state of Sonora is one of the border states hardest hit by drought. Now Claudia Sheinbaum's govt is proposing 3 new dams. A local farmer sums up local sentiment best: “There’s no water,” said Díaz-Caravantes. “What good are three empty dams?” A great new piece today by @cetracey.bsky.social 🦂
Mexico Says Construction on Three Dams in Sonora Will Begin in July. Locals are Concerned.
According to residents, officials have not produced an environmental impact statement, structural plans, or a cost-benefit analysis, nor have they consulted affected communities, as required by law.

In this week's Border Chronicle roundup we have some good news from @cetracey.bsky.social about a binational effort to save North America's birds. Then we got some Trump bad news (ah so much of it) about new militarized national defense areas on the border. A govt. source says CA and AZ are next. 🦂🤒

New article in PHG! In this essay I highlight the incredible work of queer theorists on critiquing systems of gender, sexuality, and race within our built environment. Next I argue for the epistemic potential of overlooked spaces, namely the borderland, to rethink how we build our world, literally.
