The $1.2T plunge in cryptocurrencies is great news for the general public. @deanbaker13.bsky.social notes that as speculative wealth decreases, crypto holders won’t be able to drive up prices for housing and other scarce goods, leaving more for everyone else.
Public Makes Trillions on Plunging Crypto
The sharp drop in crypto prices has erased over $1 trillion in paper wealth, easing pressure on housing and other scarce goods.

Republicans want to kill ACA subsidies and return to the "free market"—where insurers only wanted healthy people.

Millions rely on those subsidies for coverage. Letting them expire means chaos for families.  Full episode #mostlyeconomics https://youtu.be/gP5XtFP5Sfc?si=JeBkIk1MCn5B1Fzw

With inflation at 3%, real wage growth has stalled significantly. It’s not surprising, then, that more workers reported having multiple jobs in November, a sign that many are struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living.  https://bit.ly/4qhIZAZ

Unemployment among Black workers has reached severe recession levels at 8.3% in Nov, while white worker unemployment has barely risen.

@deanbaker13.bsky.social  suggests that Trump’s removal of discrimination protections likely played a role in this sharp jump. https://bit.ly/4qhIZAZ

BREAKING: 50 members of Congress say Trump’s tariffs on Brazil are a shameful attack on democracy – undermining efforts to hold coup-instigator Bolsonaro accountable and to regulate social media accounts spreading hate speech and political misinformation online.

🧵: Trump rates his economy "A+++++" but in reality unemployment hit 4.6%—the highest since 2021. If the health of our economy matched the level of the president's delusion, we might actually be alright. More from @deanbaker13.bsky.social : https://bit.ly/4pPG56G

Major crypto prices have plunged since October, wiping out more than $1.2 trillion in market value. This is bad news for crypto bros, but it leaves less speculative money to drive up prices for housing, luxury goods, and other scarce resources.  https://bit.ly/4j5OGiT

We have the votes to extend the ACA subsidies and save healthcare for our constituents TODAY.

But Republicans would rather send Congress home, attack abortion care, & let premiums skyrocket.

The shame and sham of it all.

Speaker Johnson must bring this bill to the floor NOW.

Caught between Trump’s anti-immigrant hostility and Russia's outright aggression, Europe is in a precarious position. @deanbaker13.bsky.social argues that China’s economic strength and diplomatic leverage make it a promising ally, despite its authoritarian stance.

🧵: ACA subsidies are set to expire. Medicaid is on the chopping block. Medicare privatization schemes are advancing all while Congress enjoys taxpayer-funded healthcare.

If you're not rich or getting coverage through a private employer or the government, things may get grim.

November's jobs report will likely show continued weakness—expect slow job growth (mostly in healthcare), rising unemployment hitting Black workers and young people hardest, and wages growing at their slowest pace in years.
