I have on occasion been on the road and thought I’d share some photos of what I saw along the way. Photos by me or an immediate family member. If using my photos to train AI please tag them incorrectly and say they are of Mars. #Americana #Photography
who not how. well, I got the letters right... having the letters in order is overrated.

Actually this could be incredibly useful! If you want to know what they are up to just see how they are Following!

I know, it really caught my eye coming out of the rest stop. I know it was spectacular as I noticed a few others leaving the rest stop pause for a moment. And trust me, drivers on the New Jersey Turnpike are not really in the mood to pause for anything.

Each lighthouse seems to typify today's #BlueSkyArtshow them of #One. We know there are many, but every single one seems alone.

What Exit! Nice typo to ruin an already weak joke.

The golden sunset enhances the natural beauty of... The New Jersey Turnpike.

Beautiful photo! Unrelated thought, maybe I should give the Swamp Thing TV show a try.

Where the Kudzu covered forest meets the Chesapeake Bay.

North East, Maryland (that's actually the town name... though its up in the north east of the state).

Way up on the upper east side... basically Spanish Harlem, you see art everywhere - like this here underwater scene on the fence of an empty lot. This nautical tableau is actually made of yarn.

Wow they are really similar The theater in Queens in NYC opened 1929, so similar era. Thank you for letting me know about it. Trip to London needs to be scheduled!

2/2 Walking into the Valencia even the vestibule quickly throws you into the Mesoamerica motif they're going for in this Theater. But once you get into the lobby the beauty and color really hits you.

1/2 We've seen photos of the Jersey City, Manhattan, and Brooklyn Wonder Theaters. Here's Queens. I showed some pictures of The Valencia this past weekend, but here are a few more. The theme is Mesoamerica, so the walls feature a town with churches, houses and plants.

5/5

Only 5 Morton Wonder Organs were made and it is how the Theaters got their name. The Organ was capable of making orchestral sounds (trumpet, violin, flute, etc.), percussions (glockenspiel to piano), and sound effects surf, horse hoofs, wind, etc.

4/5 Wonder Theater stages had extremely ornate designs at its sides. These designs are where the pipes for the organ would hide. At the bottom of the pipes in the Kings theater is where missing kids were put so they could be found. Here 5 satyrs looked down at the kids.

3/5 The King's Theater no longer shows movies and is for live performances. It was abandoned for decades and a lot of work was done to restore it. The carpet is not original but it is an exact copy, because the company that made it in the twenties still had some.

2/5 At The King's Theater in Brooklyn (named after Kings County rather than the Borough of Brooklyn because New York loves government entities) stepping out of the theater to use the bathroom is a journey of elegance.

1/5 Brooklyn is home to one of the 5 Wonder Theaters. And though the theater is amazing (as is Brooklyn) I hate to say it, it's the least spectacular - which is insane to say, because look at it. This is just its lobby!

3/3 And that's it for photos of The United Palace #WonderTheater of Washington Heights, Manhattan (for today)

They don't make lobbies like they used to. Pictured is a the balcony of the VIP room that looks down on the Lobby. To the sides of the balcony are two long mirrors, one clearly showing a reflection of part of the ornate ceiling.

They say since it was the last one being made they just through every design element they had used in making the other 4 Wonder theaters. As the NYT's calls it: Byzantine-Romanesque-Indo-Hindu-Sino-Moorish-Persian-Eclectic-Rococo-Deco

1/3 #WonderTheater photo madness continues. The United Palace is definitely the most wondrous of those that are open.

United Palace. One of the 5 Wonder Theaters in the NYC, and the only one to have been in more or less continuous use over the past 95 years. It still shows movie there on its new 50 foot screen.

4/4 And on the roof of the Loew's Jersey City #WonderTheater was St. George fighting a dragon. Seen from behind, this actually used to move. In the restoration of the theater I bet getting this to move again is not a high priority.

3/4 even under the decades of dust and lit only by spotlights or construction lighting, the grandeur of the Jersey City #WonderTheater is still pretty obvious. When it opened in 1929 the views of the theater were probably much more spectacular than the films that were showing.

2/4 I've been lucky to visit the theater twice during the restoration process. The plan is for the theater to open for live shows at the end of '26. The 5 #WonderTheater in the NYC area were named after the Wonder Organ able to make sounds like violins, trumpets, flutes, drums, etc.

1/4 Here's a tag for one day only: #WonderTheaterWendesday. I have way too many photos of a few of these theaters I thought I might as well show a bunch.

Starting with Lowe's Jersey City Theater. Closed in 1986 it has been under off and on restoration since then.
