Game #1 of 2026
Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones
A pretty direct improvement on everything from Blazing Blade. It felt shorter somehow, but still plenty satisfying. I honestly expected to not like the twins based on Heroes, but they were solid. Glad to have played this finally!
Didn’t realize there were actually some pretty good options.

Sounds of Her Love
Felt very much like a test vn for ds-sans prior to Chemically Bonded. It isn't bad per se, but it's generic and simple. It progresses ridiculously fast, repetitive writing, and the CGs don't match artistically. Also a Welsh private school in Japan is a choice lol

Thimbleweed Park
Honestly this one made me realize I think I just plain don’t like adventure games. Artistically the game was a delight. But logistically and especially functionally it was a slog. Playing on the Switch was not ideal, but it shouldn’t have been as painful as it was.

Also dropping my top 10 all time in the last image for shits and giggles.

It was a lot of really late nights to knock all these out, and there's about a dozen that didn't make it to completion, but I'm really happy to knock out an alleged 3.69% of my backlog.

Ashwalkers
Conceptually, I like it. The resource management was fine and a challenge in my ending. I can't bring myself to do more endings after sitting through two hours of just walking animations with occasional choices every few minutes though. Good ideas, subpar execution.

Duck Detective: The Secret Salami
This was so charming! I desperately wanted the game to last longer because it hit just right for me. I loved the style, voice acting, humor, writing, etc. I hit one roadblock in my deducktions that really frustrated me, but overall it was great.

Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind
I found this entry to be a little disappointing. Obviously it still had the flaws of the other game, The Missing Heir, but I found the story to be less engaging. It was too drawn out. The last chapter’s art is dope as hell tho.

Survival Kids
Kind of a brutal game in all honesty for how cute it is. I didn’t hate it by any means, but the resource management is pretty unforgiving. Honestly I don’t know that I’d be able to beat it without a rewind for some parts. Def not getting the other 5 endings lmao

Donkey Kong Bananza
Hi, I’m the person that hasn’t played DK64 or really much of the Country games but was excited, only to be very whelmed by Bananza. I think there was a lot of charm (last 2 hrs oozed it) but the destruction made everything feel very much the same throughout.

ICEY
I love the concept of defying the narrator and ICEY took that and really ran with it. The combat is pretty satisfying barring one boss fight (eat shit, Ideon) though I had to fight my stubborn urges to spam fast attacks eventually. Truly a hidden gem of a game.
