OPINION: The new AI tools are fast but can’t replace the judgment, care and cultural knowledge teachers bring to the table
There’s a growing push to use AI to teach faster. These tools are fast, but shallow. They fail to capture the nuance, care and complexity that deep learning demands.

As a principal, I fed 2 years of classroom observations into AI and the patterns that emerged were eye-opening. Staff nailed being Warm Demander (94%) but cognitive rigor was inconsistent (41%). We know exactly where to focus our PD. AI didn’t replace instructional leadership -it made it sharper.

Built an AI exit slip using ADIA framework—4 questions guide metacognitive reflection (what you learned → example → strategy → gaps). AI scaffolds thinking. Teachers see patterns. Base44. Thinking accelerator, not replacement in formative assessment. @base44.bsky.social

New year, new thinking. AI isn’t just about faster answers—it’s a mirror for metacognition. With AIDA (Assist, Investigate, Dialogue, Apply), students can pause, question, and notice their own thinking. The goal: reflective learners who own their growth.

AI’s potential is huge — but only if teachers are in the driver’s seat.
The AIDA Framework is a guided process to help students learn how to think with AI: Assist, Investigate, Dialogue, Apply.
It’s intentional teaching, not hands-off tech use. rebrand.ly/zngzlde

AI should amplify student thinking, not replace it.
Here’s AIDA in action:
• Assist – clarify vocab
• Investigate – compare viewpoints
• Dialogue – role-play a debate
• Apply – create something new
Which could you try this week?

School’s starting. This year, I’m focused on helping teachers use AI in ways that deepen student thinking, not replace it.
The AIDA Framework: Assist, Investigate, Dialogue, Apply. Simple. Powerful.
How will you use AI with students this year rebrand.ly/zngzlde #AIinEducation #EdTech

Just read @ajjuliani’s “AI Should Not Be the Focus. Learning Should Be.” 100% aligned with the AIDA Framework we use: Assist, Investigate, Dialogue, Apply. AI is a tool—learning is the goal. Great read.

Learning with AI is like sports: AI can’t take the shot for you. It can train, coach, and prep you—but you still have to play. AIDA helps students use AI without losing ownership of their thinking. That’s real learning.

Teachers know the feedback paradox: students need detailed, timely comments to grow, but grading 150 assignments quickly is nearly impossible. So we tried something different—using AI to amplify (not replace) our voice. #EduSky #AIEdu #EdTech

AI can answer questions fast.
But can students explain why the answer makes sense?
That’s where reflection, dialogue, and ownership matter.
That’s what AIDA is built for:
Assist. Investigate. Dialogue. Apply.

I’ve been thinking about how AI can be used in school as a thinking partner.
I created AIDA Assist, Investigate Dialogue Apply
It’s a way to help students use AI without offloading their thinking
What’s one way you’ve seen students use AI well?
