THIS.

Honestly, I just didn't hear the low hum of ableist contempt for the old, sick and vulnerable until people with disabilities of my acquaintanced pointed it out. And how I can't unhear how much of the response to Covid was a most unkind "Sod off or drop dead - I don't care which."
I felt so angry listening to the young woman on RNZ declaring to the Covid enquiry that we should avoid lockdowns and just 'protect the vulnerable'.
a) she doesn't mean WE should protect the vulnerable; she means the vulnerable should protect themselves (by permanent lockdown, presumably).

Must've missed this in a sea of bad proposals coming thick and fast. Another example of structural misogyny. And this will impact more than just women, male survivors are often forgotten when talking reporting on these issues. Misogyny harms everyone in the end.

Image says- When a child at school is anxious about going home, concerns would be raised.
But when a child is anxious about going to school, we as parents are expected to encourage them to go no matter what.
Think about that for a second.

I read The Greens Budget.
One of their things was all disabled people being able to get disability funding through ACC.
Id rather a disabled led place, MSD and ACC are ableist and traumatizing and often innacessible.
Fully fund and resource Whaikaha & fully roll out enabling good lives is better.

IMO, Its cruel, not trauma informed to make them go to the systems that abused and traumatized, denied it, agencies supposed to help were dehumanizing, systemically ableist and racist. This is why an independent system is needed but no, crown wants to remain in control.

The landmark Royal Commission of Inquiry found the state created and nurtured a long-running regime of denial, minimisation and cover-up to protect its own reputation. Now there won’t be any accountability for the implicated public servants, either.
