Well it’s done. Got a lot of mistakes but also a lot of learning it gave me. So I think it’s a fair trade! But hey, it’s standing and solid so that’s a win!

Top is not attached. The fixtures are in the mail and will get them Tuesday. Of course I dropped one of the two runners and signed it up but it’s my first coffee table so I figure crap will happen. Need to stabilize then bottom shelf as it rocks a bit. But all in all think it’s great! #woodworking

I’ll be happy to have my shop back! Lack of space is a bit of an issue. But also I guess I could not do too much as it would kick up too much dust and screw up the finish. If possible in the future I see a tapped off plastic spray room with external venting in my future!

First three are from last night. Desired to do the shelves that have been in the basement for almost a year and 3rd coat on the tops. Last one is the single coat on the undersides to help the wood stabilize moister absorption rate. Tomorrow when they are dry at 24hours, I’ll be able to move them.

And I stained a few shelf’s I made about a year ago but life never let me finish! So that’s good! One more shelf to make as well for the wood stove stuff and one for the cast iron pans. Short one here is for bathroom and long one for bedroom to get books of the floor by my side of the bed.

So I had to make the leg hole larger or there would be no space for expansion of the wood. Tried a router bit first but had to use a hole saw bit. Did some damage but sand and burn and it passable. Unstained and stained. Love the color!

Burn and golden oak stain on the under table mounting peaces I’ll attach the legs too and the little figure 8 things for wood movement. Figure they would be a good test for the stain.

Had to repaint the legs on the coffee table. The cold basement slows down the drying and curing of the paint and clear coat from spray cans so a dry fit scratched a bit of the paint. Because it’s for me I did not sand and paint just paint. As I like a rough look anyway. Now condition, stain, poly!

Just one more clear coat on the top of the pipes which is actually the bottom as it’s flipped. Then cut top to final length, mark and cut out the second shelf to fit between the four posts, round over edges or chamfer(not sure yet) and then stain and poly. Bring up stairs, assemble

They were good! Now to box them up and head down to the basement to keep working on the coffee table!
Fresh Christmas morning donuts!

My first welds…..pretty much ever save 30+ years ago in shop class. Clearly not pretty but they function and will be on the underside of the bottom shelf so hidden. First time using a little mig welder as well. So lots to learn but happy!

Step one of rust he gone be done! Now a quick rust removing gel dip, wash, dry, prime, paint, clear coat! Then reassemble with some Loctite and I can get the final length for the top. It will be close! Going from 3 boards per to slats ate up a bit of length.

The legs and set up for coffee table, need to remove rust, paint and clear coat. Then a sample test of three stains I have. Weathered oak, espresso, and golden oak. Plus a test burn and with golden oak stain. Think that’s what I’ll be doing as it kinda makes me think of tiger stripes. #woodworking

Had to go from 1" to 3/4" but managed to get the now second shelf of my coffee table looking acceptable. But as always it sucks losing a 1/4" of an inch! #woodworking #coffeetable #diy #WEN

I made a healthy bucket of pine flakes. Yes pine flakes, the breakfast full of fiber! So good it’s hopping out of the bowl! That’s Pine Flakes from MoCo! Not available in stores. Don’t ingest Pine Flakes. ⚠️Pine Flakes are flammable and harmful if inhaled. Stop use if allergic! #woodworking

Guess who has finally started there coffee table build that's been taking up space for 3 years in the entrance way!! It has taken that long, 3 years to get the basement cleaned up! What would have taken a week and a few weekends stretched out thanks to this damn back!

95% set up just need to move a bit of stuff around! I’m at least starting my darn coffee table this week minimum! Body pain gods interfering being the major wild card.

Jointer and planer setup done, still a metric ton of cleaning and stuff to move but most of that can be done as needed. Just need to move and set back up table saw and clear work surfaces and then finalize a few choices before I can get to business. Sawdust and wood chips for days! #woodworking
