Bovino actually said it's the fault of protesters if they "stray into a pepper ball."! This is the old "his nose got in the way of my fist" defense. Advice: don't slash tires, put bananas in their tailpipes. The can't drive away but no expensive damage is done.

The omniforce is accountable only to Trump: they ignore state and local guidance, or court decisions. Forget about knowing the identity of the official. Now you may not know which agency he works for, or even if he is an agent of the state.

Even as FBI is being downsized, it must allocate more of its resources to the only part of the govt that is growing: immigration enforcement.
The scale of this growth is hard to comprehend. DHS has a slushfund of $10B - bigger than the old ICE budget - to pay other agencies and state & local cops.

Military/Paramilitary forces vary in their professionalism. Some, like the FBI and DOD have high professionalism and high commitment to rule of law. Some, like ICE, don't. So Trump is purging DOD/FBI in the hope that leaders will become more like ICE.

Whenever an outsider of any variety, racial, religious, sexual etc., gets elected, the hysteria is always the same. "Kennedy is a Catholic! He will hand control of the U.S. to the Pope!" The anti-Catholocism in the early to mid 20th century U.S. was pretty virulent. /1
