If these were still used today, think of how snobby I could be? “What? You put your Vienna Lager in a barrel with Munich pitch?”

Thanks for all the tips. Two other questions. 1. Is the Beer and Oktoberfest a total waste? I’m drawn in by the drinkware collection. 2. What’s a good bottle shop, particularly one that might have Franconian beer? I already have Die Bierothek on my radar.

Cruz Del Sur in Brooklyn just announced they’re closing. It was the only place in NYC I knew of that sold a torta ahogada. Any other spots ppl know of?

Love seeing stories featuring handpumps and trad English style ales dominating the best review category in the 2025 @nagbw.bsky.social awards! Congrats to all winner and publications in all categories.

BLOG POST: "...we recognise the problem in tourists demanding that the places they visit stay exactly the same, while expecting bars at home to do the opposite... But Belgium really does feel different, for a few reasons..." 🍺🍻

We don’t want Belgian beer to change – and that’s our problem
On a recent trip to Liège we ended up visiting a couple of more modern bars which, although very pleasant, didn’t give us what we want from Belgian beer.

All-foam mlíko pours got trendy in craft beer circles. But now feels like the right time for řezané pivo, the Czech special pour layering dark and pale lagers. It’s perfect for fall.

Researching cask beer in Italy, I noticed countless places around the country using Tübinger mugs for lager and British-style dimple mugs for ale. They don’t seem to have the confusion that we do here in the US. Here’s a pub with a Tüb in Napoli: #italiansdoitbetter

The well established use of the word “stein” for a glass mug continues this year in the US. But in an odd turn of events, I’ve been seeing lots of posts of actual steins where they’re referred to as stone mugs and things like that. No mention of them actually being a stein. 🤦‍♂️

It would not surprise me to discover there were more bars serving cask ale in Italy than in one of its supposed homelands, Scotland. Though even that probably wouldn’t be enough to shame Scottish pub operators into offering it.
Having been to Italy a few times before, I was kinda embarrassed when I recently realized there are hand pumps scattered all over the country. Making it back there this summer, I made sure to do a little investigating and wrote about it on the blog. www.casketbeer.com/home/2025/9/...

Though I’m looking forward to drinking amazing wine in Tuscany and cask ale in Rome in a few weeks, I can’t stop thinking about Ichnusa Non Filtrata. Maybe it’s the heat.
