Medicaid is a lifeline for people with disabilities and seniors, yet Congress is getting ready to cut billions of dollars in Medicaid funding.

If these cuts are approved, millions of people will lose access to crucial care.

🧵 Debrief on House Budget Medicaid Cuts

1. WHAT HAPPENED?
Yesterday (2/25), the House passed a budget resolution that would result in at least $880 Billion in Medicaid cuts. Previously, the Senate had already passed a different budget resolution that did not include these cuts.

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote.

There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP

Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.

Please explain what just happened. Is there no way to stop this w the reconciliation to be used by GOP to get around the filibuster? Are we sunk?

What could House Republicans’ $880B in potential Medicaid cuts mean for your congressional district?

On average, we estimate a $2B funding loss per district and substantial reductions in coverage in states that expanded Medicaid. ⬇️

Think you’re insulated from federal Medicaid cuts because you live in a blue state? Think again. Federal cuts will shift financial responsibility to the states & enrollees. In places like California, this will lead to cuts in services and loss of affordable coverage. CALL CONGRESS NOW: 866-426-2631

I’m in awe of these federal workers’ powerful show of resistance. We all need to bring this level of energy to protecting the programs and services we care about that are currently under attack.

Yesterday, I was dropping off a package and a woman saw my mask, looked at me, and said “good for you for taking care of yourself.“ I smiled, which she could see through my eyes, and it started a conversation. By the end, she said “I think I might put my mask back on now.”

When you say “I won’t vaccinate my child because it causes autism,” I hear “I would rather my child contract a life-threatening disease than be neurodivergent.”

Not only is your assertion FALSE and not backed by science, it is ABLEIST and HURTFUL to disability communities.
