Tonight’s outing - the Miki Berenyi Trio at The Great Hall! You may remember Miki from the great shoegaze/dreampop band Lush, and MB3 definitely recall the dreamier side of that band’s sound, all shimmering guitars and ethereal vocals.

Tonight's outing: Stereolab (first time!) at the Danforth Music Hall. Neglected to listen to the new album, which dominated the setlist, but didn't really matter because I respond to the band's overall vibe more than any specific song, perfect for getting lost in the groove. Good show for that!

Tonight's outing: Sparks at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Fun, high energy show, though I had the best time when I was in familiar territory, namely the opening song and the final third of the show.

TIFF is barely over and I have a pile of concerts to see over the next couple of weeks. Tonight: Pulp at the Budweiser Stage! I forgot how well Pulp works at scale, Jarvis' arch theatricality and the music's dynamic grandeur cry out for a large stage. Beautiful night for it too. I am aglow.

The missus and I are in Stratford this weekend for a getaway and some theatre. Last night: Robert Lepage's biker gang production of MACBETH with Tom McCamus in the lead role. Lepage's staging, particularly his use of mirrors and projection effects, was as stunning as hoped for.
