Thought I wanted two accounts for separate topics but turns out I don't. I'm shifting my follows here to my main account @macampbell.bsky.social and will close this one soon.

I'll be closing this account in a bit. Find me on my main account: @macampbell.bsky.social
When I joined Bluesky I created this account and a second one dedicated to Ontario / Canada: @canadafuture.bsky.social

Turns out I can't be bothered keeping up both, so I'm shifting those follows over here and will close the 2nd account soon.

Expect a little more CanCon here going forward.

Hey Canada, did you know that farming animals for their fur has been banned in the UK for 25 years, but is *still* happening in Canada?

Over 8,000 Canadians have signed the petition demanding an end to cruelty in the name of fashion - add your signature today: www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en...
Fur farming is still legal in Canada, but it doesn’t have to be. Petition e‑6589 is calling on the Government of Canada to ban the practice for all species. Time is running out - the petition closes for signatures on August 17. Sign today to add your voice: buff.ly/iQGWwlI

Stand on guard, Canada, against this vision for here:

"This is the vision: take NIH scientists, coders, artists, researchers, and teachers and force them into low-wage jobs... because they are who the far right considers dangerous—people who know how the system works—and might challenge it."

People, we've misunderstood. The CPC won't eat bugs because they've accepted the environmental and ethical benefits of a fully vegan diet. It's all very progressive of them.
Very normal party fighting normal fights.

Just had the wife of our current Liberal MP drop by with a postcard.

He already had my support, but now they get bonus points for being our first door-knocker of this election.

I've just started listening to the audio version of Prime Minister Mark Carney's 2021 book "Value(s): Building a Better World for All." He clearly understands just how deadly serious the climate crisis is, and was also thinking/writing about biodiversity loss. Hearing that from him gives me hope.

Great interview. I am very happy Nate Erskine-Smith is planning to run again AND coach his son's baseball team. We need more like him in politics.

While I will always wish he'd moved Canada away from oil and gas, on the whole Justin Trudeau was an outstanding Prime Minister and I was always proud to have him as our leader. Through Trump's first term, through COVID - I was so thankful he was the one at the helm.

Thank you, Justin.

Passing laws that violate the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms? Why that's sure to be a major issue when it comes time to vie for reelection!
Oh, wait.

Canadians take note: Toronto Sun is a Post Media publication and... you guessed it, is an American owned company!

This is a result of when Stephen Harper sold out Canadian media to the Americans during his tenure, in 2007.

This is why we need the CBC, now more than ever!

There's a 19-year-old in my life and last weekend I pointed out to her and her parents that she was eligible to vote, which it tuned out they hadn't discussed at all.

Just confirmed all 3 of them have a plan to head to the polls today. 😃

As election day nears, recall that Doug Ford expanded a hunting practice that members of his own caucus were appalled by and that former conservation officers call "cruel."
His own cabinet member said he was "appeasing the hunters and shoring up [their] support if we have an election."

Was trying to watch a few minutes of this and wow is my French not good enough to follow a debate. 😆

I'll have to switch over to "Saint-Pierre" on CBC to get my CanCon for the night and double down on my Rosetta Stone lessons.

Last fall, a blizzard of ads started running on Meta, targeting a tiny collection of postal codes in Southern Ontario. The ads seemed low-budget, independent. They weren't.

In reality, the ads were coordinated by a PR firm with strong Conservative Party ties.

Gah! I really wish Bonnie Crombie hadn't ended with that direct request to previous NDP voters. The only benefit to her winning the Liberal leadership is that being further right than the other hopefuls should have positioned her to pull votes from Ford. That's who she should have spoken to.

Fantasizing about the next Ontario government. I'd love to see the NDP's Marit Stiles as Premier, but just a seat or two shy of a majority, and have the Greens pick up several more seats. Then together Stiles and Mike Schreiner could pass the best ideas from both parties.
