I still have a hard time doing this!
You don’t have to finish bad books.
You don’t have to finish bad books.
You don’t have to finish bad books.
You don’t have to finish bad books.
You don’t have to finish bad books.

Since this hit a lot of you for the first time, here’s the next level upgrade:

You can write your outline as a series of brackets. [We meet our protagonist] [He meets his love interest] [They go to the movies] [The monster attacks] Then fill in the outline, writing whichever beats you are ready to.
Stuck in a scene? Do what the pros do: use brackets. Write what the story beat is:

[Our hero gets out of the fight through clever means]

Then just keep writing what happens after. Maintaining momentum is key to getting the most words on the page. Meanwhile solutions often present themselves later.

One of my favorite authors
The Handmaid's Tale is a good book. But did you know that there's a book written by a Black woman about a post-apocalyptic Earth heavily affected by climate change and societal decline. The book was published in 1993, but is set in 2024 following a presidential election 👀 #BookSky #BlackBookSky
