it is simply true in no uncertain terms that this kind of behavior needs to be illegal. you should not be able to arbitrarily depreciate a tool that millions rely on just because it would make you more money. these companies think they're feudal lords, but all they have now is snake oil.

imagine if they made a hammer and you bought the hammer and used the hammer for years and then halfway through building a house the people who made the hammer said "we're disabling your hammer in a month" and there was basically no tool available to replace it without a significant learning curve
