I'm doing the 1001 albums generator / listen to an album from it every day in the hopes of shedding light on some classics I wouldn't otherwise listen to again in my life. Fun fun fun

The list of 'worst rated albums' on the aggregator site is very funny to me.

Cal has a good one here, weed420 and Alpha Maid up top is so good to see. This list got me to listen to Quade, even tho I love spacious post-rock and keep up with AD 93, I'd missed this one. Happy to have found it here!
2025, what's been the deal with that?

A glorious year for experimental rock, jazz, and folk.

These are my favourite 75 albums of the year.

'Russell’s music contains a lot of very deep emotions, often several at once, and like no-one before or since he is the absolute master of evoking them for the listener.'

Some words by me, on a record I struggled with a bit
'It feels like this group has been assembled by Lias as a reaction to the folly that followed the band during its Saoudi-Saoudi-Adamczewski era, and whilst that has its perks, it also has its pitfalls'

When someone commissions me to write my aural history of post-rock, this is exactly where it will begin. Year zero a whole manner of things
'Suzuki-era Can was interested in shaking off the tyranny of meaning and moving towards depicting sonic worlds. This would inspire later bands like Talk Talk and Radiohead to partially free themselves of the strictures of songwriting'

With this in mind, I'm trying to come up with some sort of gimmicky diaristic challenge to do through 2026. A few years ago I listened to an album from every country, and I'm drawing a blank for something that beats that. Maybe something with microgenres, maybe something else
It has left me slightly cold though, because now, genuinely, I am not sure what truly classic albums there are for me to hear for the first time. Definitely within the weirdo rock paradigm I seem to live my life inside of. Album Death, I am going through Album Death
