1/ Can we get some #metoo in the human rights community? Recent example: one very high profile award winning activist (former athlete) has been touring conferences preying upon young women. [THREAD.]
2/ Late night texts to female attendees have included invitations to “cuddle”. One text sent at a different conference even bluntly asked if she wanted a threesome.
3/ This man isn’t alone. Every young women I know attending these things fears they’re going to be gawped at. This is not a criticism of the many wonderful people who work to defend human rights and put so much effort into these conferences.
They, too, would agree that this must stop I’ve lost count of the number of times traumatised survivors desperate for a platform to tell their story were readily exploited by male power dynamics. Late night after-after parties. Platforms with strings attached. Etc etc.
