If in September 2024 you were told the Jazz would tank this season and then draft Ace Bailey, you'd probably think that was a very successful tank.

Right now I feel like this draft is:

Tier 1:
Cooper Flagg

Tier 2:
Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey, VJ Edgecomb, Tre Johnson, Kasparas Jakucionis

It's a huge drop from the first pick, but also dropping out of the top six seems bad.

I compared SGA, Jokic, and the rest of the field in most public all-in-one advanced metrics. This MVP race is an incredibly tight two man race.

I wrote some thoughts on Oscar Tshiebwe:

Let's see here:
• KJ Martin makes $7.97M
• JHS made $3.87M
• Richardson made $3.05M
• Bamba made $2.08M

Subtract
• Eubanks made $5M
• Mills made $2.08M

Pro-rated roughly 38% of the season left...

Jazz spent roughly $3.75M on five second-round picks? At most, we'll see if any take buyouts.
I am sure there will be some Math about how much actual, additional dollars Ryan Smith will be spending vs. before the trade deadline, which can be presented as a "Utah is spending $X for Y 2nd round picks"

But like, who cares! That's his problem.
The second round pick the Jazz received today is the least favorable of Utah's, Detroit's, and New York's 2028 second-round picks, a league source says.

Jazz deadline grade: A-

No big deals that would have enabled an A/A+, but every small deal this week was a clear win, and we picked up assets seemingly out of thin air using only cap space.

I'll say again, that I don't think the Jazz are done. But they're getting value so far out of pretty much nothing.
The Jazz got in on another superstar trade
The Utah Jazz were involved in yet another multi-team trade ahead of the NBA trade deadline, this one involving Jimmy Butler

Even better is that Dennis might be a guy a contender wants and is willing to give additional assets for. Plenty of worse contracts the Jazz could take on in a swap with Dennis for assets.
Honestly it's impressive that the Jazz have acquired this much draft capital in a week without sending out any meaningful players.

Each deal has been a clear win for the rebuild.
Alright, looks like the Jazz's part of the Jimmy Butler deal is once again as facilitator. They will send P.J. Tucker to Miami, take on Dennis Schroeder and get a 2031 second-rounder for their trouble.
What does the future hold for Dennis and Jalen Hood-Schifino? Tomorrow's deadline will decide

I wonder if this makes a Kessler to Lakers trade more or less likely...

I lean more likely, given the obvious 7' sized hole in the roster. But also, they have less assets now to facilitate that deal and less upside to their 1sts from the Jazz's side.

I'm so perplexed and upset.

As a certified Lakers hater, and a Luka fan, this is very upsetting.

If you can trade two end-of-bench guys for a pick of any kind, it's a win.

Always.

This is a pretty bad win for the Jazz. Especially with the Wizards winning.

This was a fairly important game to lose.

It's a good thing the Nets already got a big head start on the Jazz in the tanking race before offloading pieces.
FROM SHAMS:

The Brooklyn Nets are finalizing a deal to send guard Dennis Schroder and one second-round pick to the Golden State Warriors for De'Anthony Melton and three second-round picks, sources told ESPN. A dynamic playmaker and scorer arriving to the Warriors.

I worry that this will convince Walker once again that he can and should shoot 3's. I'm not convinced that would be a good idea, just like it wasn't before.
First six points for the Jazz comes from Walker Kessler on 2-of-2 from the left corner. I vote that he shoots til they cover him
December 14, 2024 at 3:20 AM
The Jazz brass are trying hard to lose this game, and it's unfortunately not going to work.
December 7, 2024 at 4:40 AM
Remember when Jazz fans were insistent that Walker would become a 3pt threat?
December 4, 2024 at 2:44 AM
I think it's possible honestly. It looks like he hesitated in the confusion.

I gotta say, in person the NBA Cup court looks pretty great, and isn't nearly as distracting as I thought it would be.

Kinda into it.

Nothing like spending your birthday sitting in your car in Beaver, Utah, because the whole city's power is out and you don't have enough charge to get to the next nearest city.

Will the power be back in an hour? Six hours? Who knows!

This isn't great, but good that he'll get some minutes and hopefully some aggressive play.
Jazz announce they've assigned No. 10 pick Cody Williams to the G-League SLC Stars.

I think that Jazz game is exactly what we want to see this year. Lots of guys playing well, really close game, and ultimately they let it slip through their fingers for the loss. Give us 50 more of those please.
