It's me. Utah Jazz & NBA beat writer for The Salt Lake Tribune. Oh, and now I also write a data column once a week for the Trib
Jazz beat the Cavs 123-112.

The duo of Keyonte George and Lauri Markkanen continues to be really, really impressive... they both shot 8-16 tonight in leading the Jazz to a win.

The win moves the Jazz to a three-way tie in the tank race for now in the 7/8/9 slots.

The Cavs are so disjointed. They're not getting back in transition, and have no idea what defensive matchups are even after a FT. Their offense is mud. Less than the sum of their parts for sure.
January 13, 2026 at 1:58 AM
Cavs up 62-54 at the half. Jazz started the game up 21-4, but have turned the ball over way too often since: they have 14 1H turnovers.
January 13, 2026 at 1:11 AM
I wish the Jazz would more often explore the happy medium between "resting all of the vets and losing by 55" and "playing Ace Bailey only 6 minutes per half while DNP-CDing Walter Clayton and Taylor Hendricks".
January 13, 2026 at 1:06 AM
Now that the Jazz have found that Markkanen, Nurkic, and Mykhailiuk are healthy, they lead the Cavaliers 19-4 in Cleveland.
January 13, 2026 at 12:24 AM
Hornets beat Jazz 150-95. It's the worst loss in Utah Jazz history — though the New Orleans Jazz lost by 56 once.

Scattered boos at the Delta Center as the game ends. Jazz head to Cleveland to play Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs next.
January 11, 2026 at 4:48 AM
Remarkably, the Hornets have a 61% OREB percentage tonight, which means that when they miss a shot, they're more likely to get the offensive rebound than the Jazz are to get the defensive rebound. By a 19-12 margin. That shouldn't happen, ever.
January 11, 2026 at 4:19 AM
Jazz are getting doubled up at a pretty late point in proceedings. It's 111-55, Hornets over the Jazz.
January 11, 2026 at 4:14 AM
Theoretical Taylor Hendricks should be able to make an impact in this starting lineup with on-ball iso and off-ball rim protection defensively and spacing and cutting offensively... and unfortunately reality Taylor Hendricks is just invisible. 1/0/0/0/0 so far.
January 11, 2026 at 3:57 AM
8-0 run by the Jazz, punctuated by a buzzer-beating layup by Collier, saves them ignominy! They're only down 39 to the Hornets at halftime, meaning that was only the second-worst first half in team history!

Score is 77-38.
January 11, 2026 at 3:32 AM
The most the Jazz have ever lost a first half by was 40 points... in 2019, they were down 77-37 to the Raptors. Jazz are down 46 points to the Hornets with 2:51 left 2Q.
January 11, 2026 at 3:26 AM
Jazz are down 74-28. To the Charlotte Hornets.
January 11, 2026 at 3:24 AM
There's some booing here in the Delta Center as the Hornets hit another shot.

Look, if the Jazz's youth wants to stay in the NBA in the post-tanking era, they simply have to show the Jazz and the other 29 NBA teams better efforts than this.
January 11, 2026 at 2:59 AM
No Markkanen, Nurkic, or Bailey, and the Jazz are getting killed tonight by the Hornets. They're down 36-8 already.
January 11, 2026 at 2:57 AM
Jazz say Ace Bailey (hip strain) and Lauri Markkanen (rest) are out vs. Charlotte tomorrow. Jusuf Nurkic is questionable.
January 10, 2026 at 12:02 AM
Jazz beat Mavs 116-114.

33 points for Markkanen, 14-26 shooting. George and Sensabaugh were also great.

Ryan Smith goes to Jason Kidd after the game and hugs him, they're having a lengthy postgame conversation.

Charlotte next.
January 9, 2026 at 4:14 AM
For the second time this game, Anthony Davis is injured. This time, he's holding his hand, and Jason Kidd calls timeout.
January 9, 2026 at 4:05 AM
Cooper Flagg just hit a turnaround corner 3 with 0.5 on the shot clock that was as good of a shot I've seen in this building this year. We'll see if it holds up on replay.
January 9, 2026 at 4:01 AM
Jazz up 58-55 at the half on the Mavs. Another really good defensive half from the Jazz, they've really bounced back since the ugly Portland game.
January 9, 2026 at 3:05 AM
Think that was one of the best stretches of the Jazz's season... down 19 early 2Q to OKC, reason to pack it in... then they fought to get it back within 5 by halftime.
January 8, 2026 at 2:08 AM
Honestly would be curious to see what Walter Clayton would look like in the starting SG slot, that lineup has been really good tonight and in general Clayton's been a significant +/- positive
January 8, 2026 at 2:04 AM
Blazers beat the Jazz 137-117. Was never close, Jazz just got outworked, outhustled, and outplayed by the Blazers tonight.

They'll play a reeling OKC on Wednesday. See you then!
January 6, 2026 at 5:12 AM
We're down to a 138 DRTG after the Blazers' garbage time squad has struggled to score in the 4th, so #worstgameeverwatch is off
January 6, 2026 at 5:02 AM
Jazz have a 155 defensive rating so far tonight — if that continued, it would be the worst Jazz defensive performance in a game in team history. Previous high is 150.
January 6, 2026 at 4:32 AM
Blazers largest halftime lead this season, they're up by 21 on the Jazz. Technical foul on Will Hardy as he complains to Ed Malloy on his way to the locker room.
