I love how succinctly Justin captures the essence and fun of a game, and he really does a good job highlighting the selling points of BAT. For me, it has one of incredibly few solo games I’ve found myself reaching for whenever I’ve got a few spare minutes. That’s significant.

According to Motoi Okamoto, Mini-Game Director for Super Mario 64 DS, Shigeru Miyamoto would start midnight crunch sessions for the game's development by walking into the office and announcing "It's Mario time."
"In those days, Miyamoto would come to us at 11 PM, after he finished all of his board-member work, and say, "It's Mario time." At that point, we'd start a planning meeting that would run until 2 AM. At that point, Miyamoto would go home, leaving us with the words, "You should return home soon, for your health." Over the next two or three hours, we'd write the game design documents and summarize the instructions for our artists and programmers. In order to be a "true board game designer," you don't need to be formally published, win awards, or speak at conventions.

You just need to design board games.

And if you design board games, you need to know what your goals are. Be it "make a game my friends and I enjoy playing" or "win SdJ."
