🧠 New in BJPsych: 1-year stroke risk with risperidone in dementia.
We looked across CVD subgroups ( stroke, CVD, and risk factors) to see if any group was “safer” to prescribe to.
Spoiler: there isn’t one.

Excited to share we’ve been awarded £215k from NIHR @nihr.bsky.social to continue our research on #antipsychotic use in #dementia 💡

Next up: analysing trial data, electronic health records & lived experiences to optimise safe prescribing.

We’ll be recruiting soon - watch this space for adverts!

Busy day this week running out SmartSocks study (testing new #healthtech for objective measurement of #agitation in #dementia). Started 3 participants in London before wrapping up for two residents in Berks after 4 weeks testing. Grateful to the care home staff for their insights!

*super food and also that'd be sunrise not sunset 🙄 - I blame the jet lag.

By for now, Sydney.
Powered up for the last day of the conference in Sydney where I chaired the first session. Apparently açaí is a super good though maybe not when it's got that much yoghurt and syrup in top 😋

And the sunset before heading home

Very grateful to @drmoyramortby.bsky.social for making this happen 🙏🏻

Preprints linked to the below #antipsychotics in #dementia work now out:

A matched cohort study examining stroke risk across CVD subgroups:

A qualitative study of perceptions of residents, relatives and health and social care professionals

Flanked by a sizable plate of pastries before getting started with our #antipsychotics in #dementia event today. >30 attendees from social care, NHS and members of the public.

Best practice approaches for severe agitation in dementia still stimulates insightful discussion. Work here not yet done.
