Hi! I'm Ethan Fox, indie game developer, and I created these games!
Please ask if you wanna know anything about being an #RPGMaker indie dev, & you might wanna follow if you're into #VR (especially #VRChat), anime or TTRPGs!
Yeah, yeah, they used AI and have now taken down their game because they've apparently realised AI is bad.
Millions of you are talking about it.
Can y'all please go BUY several low cost indie games that refused to use AI from the start, now, please?

So Meta's #VR division is laying off 10% of their Metaverse staff.
Seems surprising until you hear that they have over 15,000 staff - nearly twice as many as ALL of Nintendo.

Laputa.
I saw Laputa in the 80s (a heavily cut version called something like *The Flying Island*) and absolutely loved it, then loved it even more when I got to see the proper version in around ~2001.
It'll always have a special place in my heart.
In honor of Hayao Miyazaki's birthday, what's your favorite Studio Ghibli film? Doesn't have to be the one you think is "the best," just the one that nestled in your heart. Mine is Howl's Moving Castle.

It's great to see all the people here expressing their opposition to generative AI in gaming.
Can I suggest, though - alongside avoiding games that use it - the Steam Winter Sale is coming up; consider actively buying a few games that don't. Indies really need this.

During the last days of the dotcom bubble, we arrived at a weird place where companies saw a bump in share price just for putting ".com" at the end of their name, or referring to a website in a press release.
Even if such things were nonsensical.
Just putting that out there.
I don’t want to seem out of touch but I don’t actually understand the economy anymore.

Oh wow...

Ubisoft...

You were trying to make your games *stand out*?

In the past I've been uimpressed by the way so many of your games have been samey and cookie-cutter, but at least I thought that was an *intentional* decision

My game company isn't.
Following the launch of Arc Raiders – and the ongoing debate regarding the use of generative AI – Nexon CEO Junghun Lee has said "it's important to assume every game company" is using the technology

Via Reddit, I've seen the recent developments in AI-generated video.
All I'm gonna say - if you have young or aging family members, you *need* to start making very clear they must *not* trust video anymore, to assume that anything they see online, EVEN a video, is false until proven otherwise.

One curious thing on this site about speaking out against the encroachment of LLMs is that inevitably you get accused of being anti-tech. I don’t hate technology. I’ve used machine learning in my own code before. But I also recognize that oligarchs are so hellbent on pushing this tech for a reason.

Am I the only one who keeps being surprised, whenever I see that *thing* that this is what the newest iPhone looks like?!

Looks aren't everything but I think for mass-market phones it's a pretty important design consideration, and this looks waaaay over-engineered for an Apple product.
Fewer people even need to consider the iPhone Pro this time around, but there's a lot to like here for actual "pros" and people who demand a lot from their phones.

They probably need to ban the use of DLSS internally, give their team "ordinary" computers as defined by the Steam Survey, and insist they use them. Management too.
Developers sometimes have absolute monster machines and carefully calibrated monitors, and this leads to complacency.

Wow, as they'd already said there would be no VR stuff I didn't watch it - but it's sounding like that was a good call as all signs I'm seeing suggest that the keynote at MetaConnect was an absolute shitshow

In recent weeks, I feel that we have found that all too many people can look at a person and mistake civility in their appearance for goodness of their intent, directness of their words for debating from a true position of good faith, and quiet within their spaces for happiness within their nation.
