The fruit of MSL’s labour starts to be shown as the Canadiens looked connected in their win over the Calgary Flames.

Also, Hughes SOTU mid season address in this Call Of The Wilde for Global Montreal.

Call of the Wilde: Montreal Canadiens dominate the Calgary Flames - Montreal | Globalnews.ca
Right from the drop of the puck on Wednesday, the Canadiens brought enormous energy. Montreal skated to a convincing 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames.

When they consider is firing Eric Raymond fair, what they contemplate is how good to they feel their goalies are and how bad are they doing.

Management clearly feels that they’re better goalies than 26th in the NHL.

They feel Montembeault is better than 3rd last.

In comes Marciano.

The well played competitive game with the Habs getting a lot of strong performances. The goats is the one issue the team defence can’t get beyond.

It's fascinating to note how much the Canadiens have improved their roster recently. The additions continue to make a difference. Brian Wilde explains.

Another rough one for the zebras.

I try not to be that guy but the incompetence is just so high.

Kapanen is trying to stay on side and has absolutely not awareness of the player skating through him behind his back.

What point am I making?

The NFL has replay assist. If it’s obvious, control room calls the ref and the wrong call is the righted.

Don’t want it overused. But it should be used when the ref clearly misses the call.

There’s no shame in an error. The shame is in not correcting it.
Never touched him. Just like last week.

It'll be fine. Because they'll apologize in the intermission.

That makes it all better.

Lots of rumours. Let’s be honest, if you’ve been around a while, you know most are bull shit. People trying to make a name for themselves.

My take on the matter is the return for quality selling is rather small.

So one of these rumours is gonna come true.

The Habs will buy at these prices.

The amount that fans worry over the salary cap on behalf of Kent Hughes is a vibe lol

They got it, Guys. Trust me, they’re on it 👍

Newhook skated today. Looked good.

He was set to come back in March.

Feels like he’s ahead of schedule

It’s go time for management, if they are hungry for a playoff spot this year.

This is a big sample. This is who he is this year.
There have been 61 NHL goalies with min. 15 games played this season.

Samuel Montembeault’s stats among them:

• Wins: 9 (43rd)

• SV%: .869 (58th)

• GAA: 3.46 (55th)

• Goals saved above expected: -7.9 (55th)

• High danger shot sv%: .703 (53rd)

Lee I have noticed is a very positive person. Sometimes you got to speak the truth about it.

This young talented team doesn’t need amazing tending. They only need even average.
Samuel has 3rd lowest save percentage in league.

Average. That’s all that’s needed. League average
Some may disagree, but Monty was a big reason we lost. Yet another minus GSAE and a sub .900 save % (barely above .800 tonight). It's getting to be a broken record. Habs are slipping further in the standings and may even miss the playoffs because we can't even get league average goaltending.

This COTW goes where I wish I didn’t have to but it must be done.

The Canadiens were strong in Boston but fell apart in the third.

Also, why to temper expectations this season is the Wilde Cards. All for Global Montreal.

Call of the Wilde: Montreal Canadiens fall in Boston against the Bruins - Montreal | Globalnews.ca
Late-game fumbling at the net cost the Montreal Canadiens their game Saturday against the Boston Bruins. But Cole Caufield may have played the best scoring game of his career.

Another .810 from Montembeault

I must think about it every single difficult game he has ....

when they needed him to be bad for a higher draft pick, he was outstanding.

Now that they need him to be outstanding, he is ......

Well, I try not to be too harsh. Let's just let .810 speak for me.
January 25, 2026 at 3:01 AM
That cross check in the back? That's not a penalty? geesh
January 25, 2026 at 2:53 AM
Try not to be too discouraged. That was a helluva good road game by the Habs.

The players are learning well. They don't seem intimidated by hard barns to play in.

But ya gotta get saves.

Sometimes the goals against are defence and sometimes it's the goalie. Work in progress.
January 25, 2026 at 2:51 AM
If you don't agree, the analytics on that goal is a minus .85.

The max is obviously one.

So a minus .85 is a pretty significant should have had that in terms of Goals Saved Above Expected.
Boy, Montembeault so good all night, but that's a bit of a banana... and it's hard to win with big bananas or partial bananas.

These sticks. Surely something is wrong overall.
January 25, 2026 at 2:38 AM
You all know about the last 40 goal scorer in 1994 being Damphousse.

With 29 so far, Caufield is on pace for 46.

*I really should proof read these things... lol
January 25, 2026 at 2:23 AM
Hutson and Guhle running really good numbers so far this game.

Be great for the club if the best four managed to be the top four playing together. Try to figure out that left right thing and still have success.
January 25, 2026 at 2:22 AM
Paging Bill Guerin. Paging Bill Guerin. Bill Guerin you are needed in Conference Room 1 for an emergency meeting.
January 25, 2026 at 1:44 AM
We all see the same thing, and I can't tell you technically why some teams can do it and some teams can not do it, but the good teams are so aggressive stopping blue line access, and also stopping the offence from setting up.

The Canadiens just can't seem to do it.
Well, 5 on 5, helluva game from the Canadiens.... now about that PK .....

Okay, Cole, we're gonna ask you to score from one inch in front of the goal line in the corner, and it's gonna be a one timer.

Is that a good enough shooting position for you.

Yeah, sure, easy .... lol
January 25, 2026 at 1:30 AM
Good God that kid can shoot. What a shot.
