Thank you Mr Speaker. My question is to the Treasurer. What stops Australia from taxing our fossil fuel industry like Norway & charging our university students like Norway? Supplementary: how can Australia earn more from beer excise than HECS? @richarddenniss.bsky.social @albomp.bsky.social #auspol
The Australian Government makes more money from HECS repayments than it does from the PRRT.

‘Norway taxes its fossil fuel industry and gives their kids free higher education… we subsidise our fossil fuel industry and we charge our kids a fortune to go to uni.’

What if we taxed the gas industry properly?

Australia spent billions on vaccines, RATs, and PPE during the pandemic.

Last month in Parliament, my motion to draw attention to dubious COVID vaccine procurements was voted down by the ALP and the LNP.

Acts of collusion by the major parties continue to corrode trust in government.

Australia’s biggest miners have pocketed almost $60BN in diesel tax subsidies in <20 years.

Unless we act, taxpayers lose $84BN more by 2030.

It makes no sense for 🇦🇺ns to pay tax while coal giants get a free pass.

End this fossil fuel subsidy now.

While the government’s trying to find millions in productivity reforms, we’re giving away billions in gas.

Students are *still* paying more in HECS payments than the government collects from the petroleum resources rent tax.
Albanese is crying poor, but we’re losing billions a year from untaxed gas
In Norway, they tax their oil and gas industry heavily and give their kids free higher education. Here, we do the opposite.

We pay far too much for electricity and gas in this country. Every time we open a bill we see evidence of government failure.

The govt must stop allowing multinationals to sell off our gas while paying little or no tax, while we pay more for our gas than the people who buy it overseas.
