Assad’s biggest supporters were Russia and Iran, which were both weakened by fighting different wars.

Russia has been bogged down in Ukraine and Iran has been distracted by fighting with Israel, so neither could provide Assad the support necessary to retain power.

Looks like the US-backed “rebels”— which are an offshoot of Al Qaeda — have officially taken over the Syrian capital.
Armed opposition forces have entered Damascus, the Syrian capital, & are reportedly facing little to no resistance. While there were initial reports of gunfire, recent updates indicate that the opposition has now taken control of Syrian state television & radio headquarters in the heart of the city.

Western media refuses to mention that the “rebel forces” in Syria are actually Al Qaeda/ISIS bc then people would be confused about why Russia is fighting Islamic extremism while the US is supporting it. The Syrian “civil war” is just a proxy war btwn the US and Russia.
