Relaxing.
Starmer‘s ‘I‘m not being deposed’ t-shirt seems to be raising a lot of questions.

I don’t think I’ve ever known anyone with a 5 bedroom house.
I can only assume that most of your friends bought their London home a long time ago. A family home starts at 5 beds I reckon. 3 kids rooms + an office + a parents room. The cheapest such house currently for sale in eg Vauxhall, hardly an up market area is £1.1m. And the vast majority are over £2m.

I’m thinking Michael Prescott might be a bit of a cunt

Slightly surprised that the Lady of Shallot’s name was Elaine.

Too much to hope for that the BBC takes the Arkell vs Pressdram approach?

The BBC news is going to be another be careful what you wish for isn’t it.

Find myself staying in Hemel 40 years to the night after I first saw New Order here. Thought about walking up to where the Pavilion was, but I doubt it would be worth the effort.

Briefly managed to get Google Scholar working in Safari by turning some security things off. Haven't turned them back on but it's stopped working again. Has Google got some adaptive shittification technology, like a twatty Cyberman?

Is there a reliable (public) dataset of the distribution of income? I always wonder what the net change in tax income would be if you raised thresholds and rates at the same time, and wonder why that never happens. It may be it would be net neutral or loss, but I'd like to play with the numbers.

Five live coverage of news has been quite good this morning, then they play a clip of Kuenssberg sounding like Dave from Clacton with a Facebook gotcha

How can there be £300 difference between car insurance quotes?

Picked up the wrong record on the merch stall at Jah Wobble last night (I was in a hurry and it was dark). But it's good, so that's nice.

Once again the thing I miss most about Twitter is there not being a simple route to finding out stage times for gigs. A small window of convenience seems to have closed again.

Trying to find something interesting on Apple's playlists. Everything sounds the same, regardless of supposed genre. Don't know whether it's Apple's curation, production fashions, or just me being old, but fuck me it's all so dull and/or cliched.

Was looking up the lyrics to ‘Cunts can fuck off’ and slightly surprised at the link Genius made. (I’ve never really listened to Taylor Swift, but doesn’t seem like her vibe.)

Listening to some classical music again. Always* feels like looking at blueprints rather than paintings.

(* I don't do it often, and no it's not all like that, but so much of it when I do try feels like engineering** rather than art).
(** And not even the interesting sort, like bridges or clocks).

Got a new laptop with a bigger screen, which is the right size when I'm working with it, but looks stupidly massive as soon as I put it down.

Going to two gigs on consecutive nights again, and I'm tired already at the thought of it. Well, that and I've been awake at 4.30 every day this week.

If a company gives a quote for a job that doesn't break down parts and labour, that's a red flag isn't it?
October 21, 2025 at 3:27 PM
Had a quote for a plumbing job. Fuck me, they can be pricey can't they.

Something refreshingly old school about sticking a ladder up against a window of the Louvre to do some thieving.
