What do 18 year olds have that 5 year olds don't?
Talking to the 5-year-old about the election tomorrow has backfired spectacularly because she asked if she gets to vote, and I explained to her that she needed to be 18, and she is now crying and vigorously arguing that you should be allowed to vote “whatever age you are”

John Warner does a great job of unpacking a series of ideas about writing and writing instruction and, while I don’t agree with all the propositions, the conclusions are right on target.

The screenshot shows some of the conclusions.

Swipe back and forth to see before/after aerial images of Helene throughout western NC. The damage shown to my own property was pretty disturbing, but I will say one thing: live stakes are essential for preserving riverbank (and actual land)!

I have a student who insists on using uneccessary and incorrect words in his email communication. Every time, I think "That does not mean what you think it means."

I just wrote and deleted a post about a novel that I'm finally reading because: 1) I'm years behind on reading this very popular book, and 2) I know Bluesky is different from the bad place but I still worry about spoilers 😅

Great thread with an example of one small intentional thing we can do in our teaching to make a huge impact on our students and ourselves.
This fall my students do "exit tickets" (a short, easy written question for a tiny grade) at the end of every class.

And it's been MAGIC.
