want to be excited about this as lots of people have been quick to point out the Robles comparison, but it’s hard to say what the plan is if the M’s see him that way, as opposed to a depth piece.

loving the more aggressive approach from #mariners hitters against skubal today !!
Looking to 2025, I’m interested to see if new hitting coach Kevin Seitzer, who pushed a more swing-happy #braves offensive philosophy after joining their coaching staff in 2015, will aim to do the same in Seattle, and whether that can produce the same kinds of results.

Cautiously optimistic on Polanco this year, he’s had ups and downs over his career and it felt like he was under-performing in 2024, so I lean towards expecting positive regression.

Curious to see how he performs at 3B, small sample size in his career but defensively it’s been his worst position.

Thread on #mariners hitting last season:

While leading the MLB in strikeouts in 2024, they also finished 4th in walks. Especially earlier in the season, the hitting philosophy and approach was very passive - protect the plate, wait for the right pitch, and take the walk if that’s what comes to you.

Solano is a totally solid every-day type infielder, and honestly i like the signing given where we’re at, but this a move made by a team hoping for 90 wins

Quick graphic on new #Mariners hitting coach Kevin Seitzer. During his tenure with the #Braves, their team OPS rose for six (!) consecutive seasons starting with his takeover in 2015:

no official #mariners account to repost on here, but broken bats would like to say a fond farewell to sam haggerty and will always remember his 4+ WAR pace performance in the back half of 2022 🫡

Some things I’m thinking about re: Cal Raleigh changing management:
The optimistic read is he wants to talk an extension, which Boras generally counsels his pre-FA clients against. Clearly this is what most Mariners fans are hoping for.

The season is over and Dan Wilson is here to stay as the Mariners’ manager. I dive into the changes we saw in the team’s hitting after the swap:
