Erin is very close to hurricane strength this morning. It will pass near Puerto Rico as a category 3 Sunday, bringing rough surf, gusty winds, and 2"-4" of rain. It will bring us rough surf, rip currents, minor coastal flooding, and some beach erosion mid to late next week as it passes offshore.

Hot and humid again today. Highs reach the mid to upper 80s, but the humidity will make it feel more like the 90s. An afternoon storm is possible in spots, but storms won't be as strong as yesterday.

There is a moderate risk of rip currents along south-facing shorelines, with a lower risk further down the Jersey shore.

However, even in low-risk areas, stay alert—rip currents can still form, especially near piers and jetties.

The NHC is tracking three systems in the Atlantic. The two farther west have low odds of developing, but one near the Cabo Verde Islands could become a tropical depression or storm today. It’s too soon to know if it will affect the U.S., but stay tuned for additional updates.

Low-pressure off the southeast coast has a low chance of development, but it will raise the rip current risk along area beaches. A tropical wave in the central Atlantic could become a tropical depression late this weekend/early next week, though models keep it out to sea for now.

Tropical Storm Dexter is moving away from the East Coast, but the NHC is watching two other Atlantic systems. A low off the Southeast coast could become a depression this weekend. Another wave farther east may also strengthen later this week. #Tropics
