For 60 years, unclassified US defense and intelligence reports assessed security threats from environmental, #water, and #climate risks.

These assessments are now being deleted, censored, and canceled. I document, annotate, and link to them here (first of 3 posts):

I am now hearing from multiple folks in the past two hours (including some who have personally been fired) that mass firings have now commenced within NOAA--including, yes, at the National Weather Service.

For further perspective, as professional climate scientist & meteorologist, I personally pay several hundred dollars per yr for basic raw data access from ECMWF--European NOAA equivalent (basic commercial licenses run in ~5 figures). That does not include forecast interpretation.
Folks are getting worked up about my recent claim that U.S. National Weather Service costs $3-4 per person/year. Well, some math: NWS budget of ~$1.3 billion, ~160 million tax returns, & ~345 million Americans means ~$8/taxpayer, or (indeed) ~$3.75/person. That's...quite a deal.

I'm excited for this new platform. Left Twitter when Elon Mush bought it, and leaving Meta after Suckerberg showed his cowardice. Yay for Open Source!
