Is this some kind of marketing tie-in for that singer?

Wow, A PRIVATE LIFE was not:

Hitchcockian
sophisticated
comedy
silly
fluff
zany
chemistry

What it was, was:

weird
dumb
hard-to-follow
annoying
baffling even

And the film makes one wonder:

why should anyone care
why did Jodie do this
why is her character nuts
why was this film even made

Happy Paypal Friday*, to all those who celebrate!

*The day, often called #BandcampFriday, that #Bandcamp waives its fees but super-sneaky Paypal doesn’t, yet somehow everybody still thinks that artists get 100% of each purchase. A rather brilliant trick on Paypal’s part, I must say. 🤷‍♂️

Surely all self-respecting film fanatics know their favorite films by their MPAA numbers?

Why, mine are 20110, 21197, 24416, and 27850.

How about you?

Consider the placement of the camera in each of these photos widely seen on bsky today..

How might the camera placement send a message, or at least leave a subtle impression in the mind of anyone viewing the image?

Well there goes my weekend!

Two books by @hamrahrama.bsky.social

[I didn’t realize LAST WEEK IN END TIMES CINEMA was the, I daresay, exact equivalent of doomscrolling a feed consisting of nothing but a year’s worth of Hollywood trade pub headlines 😂]

Man oh man, there is just NOTHING as satisfying and wonderful as playing a 3-hr live gig of music and a packed audience responding and cheering and shouting out requests and dancing and showering us with tips.

A splendid time was had by all. Can't ask for more than that. So much fun. 😎

Ever notice how news and pharma industries are similar?

Both are aware bad things happen to people and hurt them.

But neither industry wants to stop the bad thing. Rather, they try to *manage* it, either through narratives or prescriptions, in order to monetize it as long as possible.

One great thing about #SantaFe: this is a town that where in the same week you can see a bunch of great international films, like, showing right now: THE VOICE OF HIND RAJAB (devastating, and a MUST-SEE!), ALL THAT’S LEFT OF YOU (another devastating must-see), and IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT.

Hey Adam long time no see!
Nice to know you’re still out there.
Just sayin’ hello.

[I enjoy seeing in social media posts usage of popcult expressions like “Temu” that I have no idea what they mean, nor any inclination to google. The more jargon the better! For me it signals I’m becoming less online and more offline which I consider a very good thing in these dystopian times 🤷‍♂️]
Few people irritate me as much as the Temu John Prine guy on Instagram

SEND HELP sucked. Had same, trite, nudge-nudge/wink-wink tone of the Knives Out films, as well as same, performatively playful, empty orchestral score. An ugly, deeply cynical, very Republican attitude, desperate to be a comedy, failing thoroughly. CAST AWAY for the Idiocracy era. Raimi’s worst. 🤷‍♂️

Congress should tariff Trump $100 per missing page of the fully unredacted Epstein documents, per day, starting back at the now long-ignored, long-missed deadline. 5 million pages, 500 million per day, times over 40 days and counting, why, it'd be already be adding up to real money.

I can't believe I am today, as in now, years old, and have only just this very split-second moment discovered this hilariously ancient-looking and obsessively-cared-for website called IMCDB, the Internet Movie Cars Data Base. OMG.

Good grief. Gold is crazy. Worldwide faith in the US Dollar (well, worldwide faith in the US itself) gotta be plummeting. How high can it go? $10,000? Higher?

One of the greatest rock/punk anthems of the 1960s or any time: Pushin’ Too Hard by the glorious, crazy, goofy Sky Saxon and the Seeds:

@metacritic.com

Is your website broken? Every time lately that I try to view "all critic reviews" it shows a very shortened list, and essentially, there's no longer a way to see all critic reviews.

It's been this way for last 5-10 days.

What's up? Or down?

NONE of the Detroit automakers has EVER been serious about EVs; it's all been BS with a quiet demand to US Gov that the only way they'd do EVs is if Gov pays them to make 'em. And the Gov has poured billions into Ford/GM, for naught.

Wall Street is thrilled.

(Even Tesla now not serious about EVs!)

Song of the day.

This one’s for you, Bovino. El Centro.

A tribute to the greatest riddim section in the universe, Sly & Robbie, may they RIP. They gave Sinead’s cover of Downpressor Man its perfect foundation.
