Today, to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, my family and I attended the annual gathering, Remembering the Children, on Parliament Hill.

Last Sunday, ahead of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, I joined Senators Boyer and White at the Senate of Canada to host a ceremony in honour of nine individuals nominated for the King Charles III Coronation Medal by the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation.

Today, I attended a Ceremony of Remembrance at the National Aboriginal Veterans Monument in Ottawa’s Confederation Park. Thank you to Aboriginal Veterans Autochtones for the kind invitation. I was honoured to join Senator Yvonne Boyer in laying a wreath in honour of Indigenous veterans.

Yesterday in the Senate chamber, I was deeply moved to receive a standing ovation from colleagues. Becoming the first Indigenous person to lead a caucus/group on Parliament is not just a personal milestone – it’s a step forward for all of us working toward a more inclusive & representative Canada.

Last Tuesday, Senators Downe, MacAdam, Robinson, and I had the pleasure of meeting Premier Rob Lantz and his wife, Kelly, in the Senate Chamber following King Charles III’s Speech from the Throne. Proud to stand alongside them in representing Epekwitk/Prince Edward Island on such a historic day.

Last Friday, I had the immense honour of receiving the King Charles III Coronation Medal in the chamber of the Senate of Canada, presented by the Usher of the Black Rod. It is with great pride and heartfelt humility that I accepted this recognition.
