Between IMMORTALITY, Skin Deep, Jett: The Far Shore and Spooky Express, few composers/sound designers are doing such consistently good/varied work as Priscilla IMO
I really hope people keep hiring me to write music for games. 🥲

Lot of good shit this year...

But I haven't stopped thinking about SKIN DEEP.

It's wild. And on sale.

You should play it.

This is incredibly painful for me. I have never asked for help like this before. But I have had people reach out to me asking if they can help, so I am sharing my story and finally asking for help.

I've been lucky to have a lovely group of followers here, please share if you can, anything helps <3

I wrote an article about dialogue choice as part of a narrative designer’s toolkit *aside* from branching, instead considering how choice can invite us to *perform* a character.

My case study is South of Circle’s beautiful fuzzy meaning-making (using symbols instead of words). 💜 Give it a go!

Yeah, this is the thing about it, isn't it. If you had some kind of advantage over the competition – why are you so invested in making sure everyone else has it?
I’ve been in game dev for 26 years and I can’t remember any other time where a specific tech was being insistently and persistently pushed on devs as a group in the public sphere.

Why would it? Cui bono? Why would any given dev have an interest in other devs using tech they don’t have a stake in?
My conspiracy theory about genAI in games blowing up more and more by big companies is that they’ve all got a ton of investors insisting they use genAI tools otherwise they(investors) won’t be able to bankroll em anymore

And if they don’t - wow, that’s great for you! You’re going to leave your competition in the dust.

“Don’t be stuck in the past,”

Or what, Good Samaritan? Why are you so concerned for me? Won’t you benefit if I falter and stumble into the dust bin of history?

If devs are *licensing* their own tech, sure. But a dev saying “if you don’t use bump mapping / IK / Source Engine you’re a Luddite / stuck in the past / etc.” - why would they care?

IME if someone uses tech that has self-evident value, people scramble to adopt it.

We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

Most of us did not choose to write or draw or design so that we could put products on the shelf. We chose to do it because it’s a set of skills we enjoy exercising, that give us fulfillment.

It’s like asking a pro pitcher to just let a machine pitch for them. Fuck off and give me the ball.

I appreciate when there's an audience backlash to this because what's happening from a dev perspective is that its gradually being normalized across many studios, through similar thinking and top-down culture-setting as revealed by these interviews.
this is a good battle to pick. the CEO mentioned using "AI" and got so much shit for it immediately that he's rattled and backpedaling. easy win there
this shit, despite its faults, is not going anywhere and people are going to have to pick their battles
